Hypermobility is already an under-researched disorder, despite it affecting an estimated 20%-30%, at least. It's a spectrum disorder, that can range from Ehlers Danos Syndrome to "simple" joint hypermobility.

But there's nothing simple about hypermobility, especially when it comes to the challenges of fitness. So many hypermobile yogis don't understand what they're doing to their body.

Here are some outside resources to help you better understand the complex relationship between yoga and hypermobility. Send me an email if you think something is missing!

HYPERMOBILITY RESOURCES

I adored this book so much I had it on Kindle, then immediately bought it in print when I realized how much I would value the information. It's perfect for people with ADHD, completely full of images, cartoons, blurbs, and other fun ways to communicate about sciency stuff. I'm actually shocked this book doesn't a) cost more and b) isn't required reading for professionals!

Too Flexible To Feel Good

This book is such a great, accessible read. It's chock full of information about hypermobility and yoga, as well as photos to help the reader understand things even further. It was the second book I read about hypermobility and it's a huge factor in what and how I teach!

Books

Anatomy isn't my favorite thing, but my sister-in-law recommended this book. The moment I opened the book, I was hooked! It shows you the top yoga poses and exactly what parts of your body is activated, passive, etc. A MUST-READ if you're looking to deepen your understanding of how the body moves during yoga!

The Science of Yoga

This book is filled to the brim with sciencey stuff. Not just an overview of hypermobility side effects and symptoms, but also how to approach different asanas, how to communicate, first-hand experiences from other yogis, and so much more. It's extremely thorough and I recommend it for any fellow yoga professionals!
